# Your first yield product is the easy part

Once your customers hold balances with you, they will ask for yield. Adding it is quick. What you add it with decides how hard everything after it will be.

## You used to move money. Now you hold it.

Payment platforms, remittance apps and neobanks are all making the same change. Customers no longer just send money through you. They keep a balance in a wallet inside your app.

A balance that sits still raises a question your old business never had to answer: what is this money doing? Your customers will ask. If you do not have an answer, a competitor will.

## The path almost every platform follows

1. **Balances.** Customers hold dollars with you.
2. **Yield.** Those dollars start to earn, from one source.
3. **A choice of yield.** One source stops being enough. Customers want options, your treasury wants a better rate, or the first source stops being competitive.
4. **Loans.** Customers borrow against what they hold instead of cashing out.
5. **Investing.** Tokenized funds and equities, next to the balance.
6. **Trading.** Moving between all of it, at any hour.

Few platforms plan for all six. Most reach step three within a year of step two.

## A finished product, or the rails under it

There are two things you can buy at step two:

1. **A finished yield product.** One source, one rate, someone else running it. It is live quickly, and at step two it is hard to beat. The limits show up later. The provider's choices are your choices: its source of yield, its networks, its products. When you reach step three or four, you are shopping for a second vendor.

2. **The rails.** One connection to many yield sources and markets, from which each product is made. Rails have a reputation for being more work: you get an API and a menu, and you build the product yourself. That criticism has been fair, of us included. It is why we changed how you start, which we come to below.

## Why we built rails

We could have built a vault with a rate on it. We chose not to, for three reasons that matter to you more than to us.

- **Your customers' money stays theirs.** Each customer has their own account, which only they can sign for. It does not sit with us.
- **You are never tied to one source.** Markets change. The best place for a dollar this year may not be the best next year, and you should not need a new vendor to act on that.
- **You integrate once.** Every step on the path above runs on the same connection.

## Starting is as easy as a finished product

Rails only help if the first step is not harder. So:

- **Ready-made screens.** A yield screen with the rate, the balance, deposit and withdraw, styled to your app.
- **Our engineers work with yours.** The integration takes days. You do not need anyone who has built an onchain product before.
- **Start with one source.** If you want a named manager deciding the allocations, choose a managed source. If you want to choose yourself, you can.
- **Your fee is built in.** You decide your share of the yield, and it is paid straight to you.

<div class="post-cta">
<p><strong>See it before you decide.</strong> On a first call we show you a working yield screen with a live rate on it.</p>
  <a class="btn-primary" href="https://calendly.com/elisabeth-compasslabs/30min">Book a 30-minute call <span class="arr" aria-hidden="true">→</span></a>
</div>

## "But..."

- **We have no engineers to spare.** You need very few. The screens are ready, and our team does the integration alongside yours.
- **We already have a yield provider.** Keep it. Add your second source, or your next product, through Compass. Nothing has to be ripped out.
- **We want someone else to manage the allocations.** Then pick a managed source. You get a named manager and a published mandate, and you can still change your mind later.
- **It is on the roadmap for January.** Then choose the route now, so that January is a launch date and not a start date.
- **Our balances are small.** Any dollar sitting idle is money not being optimized. It is one simple hookup on the right infrastructure.
- **We are on a different network.** Compass runs on many today: Ethereum, Base, HyperEVM, BNB Chain, Arbitrum. If your balances sit elsewhere, tell us early.

## When a finished product is the right choice

- Yield is the only step on that path you will ever take.
- You want to hand the money to one company that holds it and invests it for you. Compass never takes custody. We can pair you with a custody partner and a managed yield source, but if you want a single counterparty for both, a custodial provider is the better fit.

If either is true, buy the finished product. If you can already see step three, talk to us before you choose.
